During rehearsals, Eion and Molly came up with an improvised scene that almost ends with them kissing in a, ahem, non-costodial parent-to-tennage-stepson manner. It was never filmed, though.

It wasn't really intention on my part when writing the script- the scene above came out of Molly's frusterations with the character and how mean she was (which comes through in Molly's performance- she never did nail it because she didn't want to be so "mean", and her performance really suffered and had to be cut around)- she wanted something with her being "tender" towards Ryan, and I wanted it to have a twist, and that's what they came up with. But like I said, it was never shot, but they may have had that in mind when they were acting out that opening scene.

Regarding Pepper- his character was added for the same reason, because Molly though her character had no life, so we came up with the idea that she's a bored woman with money and no job, so she takes courses at the local community college and hooks up with younger college guys that she can boss around, hence Dennis Pepper.

: Did you plan for there to be an incestual tone between Meg and Ryan in the beginning of the film or was it just there? Their hatred for one another gives that feeling, coupled with the fact that Meg is with Pepper, who is much, much younger than she. I always wanted to ask you, but it kept slipping my mind.
