I don't have any great ideas, as I myself seem to be the only person on this board who's not interested in this line of work, but some local cable stations offer classes in directing that are a lot cheaper than college tuition (in my town they're free, smile).
You could also try writing some screenplays first, that's definitely free. And it would give you some idea of whether or not you have anything to say as a filmmaker, and if it's at all possible for you to express yourself visually. Anyways, don't let the lack of financial backing ruin your dream. If you turn out to be talented, people will want to invest in you.

: I've tried to go to college 5 times in the 5 years its been since i graduated with the hopes of one day being a director. This time lack of student loans is keeping me out. I'd say fuck it and just try to make a movie on my own but no camera and lack of funds permit that shit from happning. this sux i fucking hate knowing in my heart what i want to do in life just not having a clue how to make it happen. I know film school is useless and wont teach me a damn thing but i kinda hoped it would at least get me started. anyway any advice from any1 on what I can do to start making things happen? thankx
