Blame me for that. We did all of Jeff's coverage, then moved on to Brian's
coverage. Between set-ups, the three of us (and some of the extras in
attendance) got to talking about the cartoon, and how Jeff's cartoon Randal
was pretty far-removed from the slacker-sardonic he'd originally played in
the flick. Then, we started running our favorite cartoon Randal lines and
inflections. After ten minutes of that, I said "Let's do a few takes of
you doing cartoon Randal." So we shot Brian, and went back to Jeff's
set-up for some animated action. In the editing room, I fell in love with
the cartoon version coverage, so most of what you see in the short (about
seventy five percent, I'd say) was from that set of takes.
Insouciant Randal is dead! Long live Cartoon Randal!
