I'm a big fan of his work and it's the icing on the cake that he's such a nice bloke as well. I haven't met the man (Hopefully when I conquer my fear of flying I will) but I've had TWO signed items from the Stash which, compared to most other artists signed goods, was incredibly cheap. Because of this, VULGARTHON and his constant presense on the board he goes far beyond his call of duty.
: I don't know why, but this whole thing struck me as kind of funny. Didn't it ever occur to you the guy is a human being? How dare he talk on a telephone! The NERVE!
: I don't know... did you become a Kevin Smith fan because you liked his stuff, or because you liked him? The first time I saw Mallrats and Chasing Amy, I had no idea who he was (except that he directed both movies), I just thought they were really good.
: Maybe the problem is people like his stuff now because they think they know him...
: : Last Weekend I attended Megacon 2002 and the guest of honor was Kevin Smith. I brought my Jay an Silent Bob #1 to have him sign it, but when I stepped in line they said Kevin Smith requested to have the line stopped at 100. I was like "What The Hell!!" and the people who were monitoring the line said "Try to get in line earlier tomorrow..." I said
: : "Earlier!! They Just Opened The Fuckin' Doors!!" Then the guy told me he understood why I was pissed, but there was nothing he could do to. So I tryed not to be bothered because I figured he would be there tomorrow. So me and my friend walked around trying to look for shit to do when we saw another man sighning autographs and taking pictures with his fans. This man's name was Andy Hallet who is a character on the WB's Angel ((He Is A Demon With Green Skin And 2 Red Horns On His Head)) and he was signing autographs and taking pictures like crazy and after that he talked with everybody who went to see him. As I watched the line continue grow over 100 and nobody was stopping it, I knew this guy was true to his fans, and he would see everybody in the whole convention if he could. So I bought some comics, looked around for a while, then me and my friend left. The next day we came back to the convention super early, walked in as soon as we were alound to be entered, but by the time we got there I had already knew, and when I turned to my friend he knew as well, we didn't have to even say it to each other, but there was still a chance. So when we walked up to get in line and the same man who was monitering the line, was there, remembered me and said sorry but the line is already closed off. By now I was so pissed I could have torn someone apart. I turned around and walked away to look at some of the booths I hadn't seen the day before. So a few hours later I was digging through some guys comic box looking for some Hellspawn's when my friend came up to me and said "Dude you gotta check this out" so we walked up to see Kevin Smith. When we were in clear veiw of him we saw him talking on his cell phone the whole time, not looking up at anyone, and not saying shit to anyone, I didn't even see him take any pictures with anyone. From then on I realized Kevin Smith dosen't really care what the hell goes on with his fans, as long as he gets paid and is known. I know it doesn't mean nothing to him but he has lost a few devoted fans, who really enjoyed his worked untill we saw the true "Kevin Hollywood Smith." Thats my story, I don't really give a shit who thinks I'm wrong, because I saw alot of people who saw what I saw at the convention and feel the same and I could care less what the people who think I'm wrong have to say. I wrote this in hopes that Kevin Smith would some how read this ((even though its the people who run this site reply in his name))and maybe undestand what a DICK he is, and change his view on how to treat his fans.
