Funny you should mention this. As I watched Animated Clerks DVD's last night, I wondered why there were no black characters - well, then up popped Barkley and Lando. I assume that Kevin realizes that this happens and has taken steps to change this. Why did it happen in the first place? This is my theory: You write what you know. Maybe Kevin wasn't exposed to people of color in Red Bank while growing up. I really have no idea, but to say, you write what you know. Kevin's audience is Kevin's audience. Kevin probably won't make a "Do the right thing" sequel. Why would he? It's not his "thing". Kevins movies are the way they are because that is what he knows. I would NEVER put Kevin down (and am not saying you did either) by saying he doesn't cast enough blacks. He considered having the Wayan's Brothers play Ben and Matt in the Good Will Hunting sequence, and talk about great casting, what about Chris in DOGMA? There are plenty of things to be aware and sensitive of, but Kevins characters come from what he knows.
And sometimes, he doesn't know shit - and that's what makes him wonderfully unique and gifted!!
: hey i was thinking, why dont u think kevin uses more blacks in his movies. the only black character i can think of is that gay guy in chasing amy. along with the dealer in jay and silent bob strike back. why dont u think he has more black characters? personaly i think kevin would make a funny story using a black guy. imagine silent bob as black or even randel or jay. that would be fucked up. maybe they should remake clerks using an all black cast. u could put ice cube and p diddy. cube would play silent bob, p diddy could be randel, busta rhymes could be dante. and who would be jay? will smith? naw. oh i know. dl huglie. ya. adn have the same diologue except change it to make it seem more in the hood.
