Translation: I'm going to judge a film based on the attitude of its filmmaker...
I'll agree that in some cases this is something that is acceptable (EX: Ridley Scott and "Black Hawk Down"), but come on man, something somebody writes on a bulletin board is not any way to judge the quality of their art.
: But who knows. Maybe I'll cop a look at rental, just so I can criticize it in more detail (g).
So you're going to go and watch a film for the sole purpose of criticizing it. Let us not give it a chance to be halfway decent, let's just lambast it because we can. That's some bullshit right there. I've not heard much at all about "The Drawing Files," but what I have heard about it interests me greatly. The problem with film these days is that there is no variety. Hollywood has been using the same formula for every movie since the 1930's. Nothing has really changed. Every Saturday a trip to the cinema brings us more and more trash. (EX: "Crossroads") Honestly, there has to be something out there that's taking risks. The only place you'll find fresh filmmaking these days seems to be with independant filmmakers. I'm quite interested in seeing films by people that aren't locked into the Hollywood money machine. By the way, I have a tendancy to rant and ramble, which I figure are admirable traits for a poster on a web board.
Back to John's narrow minded view... The artist hurt your feelings? I'm sorry, go cry in your own little corner for a few years and come back when you grow up. Until then lay off the petty "Vincent's nice so I like his movies, but Malcolm made me cry so his films suck attitude." If you're going to criticize something, criticize *it*, not the artist. You're probably denying yourself an entertaining and worthwhile cinematic experience.

So this is my first post, I'll probably be sporadic and lengthy when I do post, but I felt like saying something :)
