: Digital can look as good and sometimes better than film.
This is ABSOLUTE HORSESHIT.
Even the best DV format available- 24P High Definition- doesn't match film. 35mm film has the equivalent of 12 million pixels of information- approximately 3000 pixels by 4000 pixels on a full-frame of 35mm film- compared the the absolute maximum of 2.2 million pixels for 24m (1080 pixels by 1920 pixels).
DV is a wonderful format and a great tool for starting filmmakers, and 24P can be an alternative for 35mm film if your film is going to be heavily manipulated in post-production digitally anyway (like ATTACK OF THE CLONES, but it's NOWHERE NEAR close to what 35mm can achieve in terms of picture quality- it's really fucking far off, in fact. Not just in terms of resolution (pixels), but also in terms of contrast, exposure latitude, gradations of color, etc. etc. etc.
To say that DV can APPROXIMATE the look of film when using 24P under certain circumstances wouldn't be too much of a stretch- to say it looks "as good or better than film" is absolutle, unmitigated bullshit and has no basis in reality at all.
