Watch Clerks and then watch J&SBSB. There's a significant difference in his acting. I actually laughed at him in Clerks -- and not because his character was funny. And with J&SBSB, he was able to basically carry the entire movie all on his own.
I think it would be really interesting to see him in some non-Jay type of role. That way we'd be able to see, like you said, if he has talent or if he's good playing only Jay.
