I really think it's important that I say right here and now that whenever someone tells me they don't like the Strokes, I see right through to their jealous, pretentious, whiny little core. Since when is music about marketing? Dissing the Strokes for the marketing plan behind them is like dissing a book because the cover is too flashy. Someone could dislike the Strokes for totally valid reasons (or the only valid reason), but I still wouldn't believe them, so prevalent and contagious is the pretentious party line.
So those who start in with the "derivative-rich-kids" speech they learned from their other indie friends can expect nothing but an eyeroll from me. It's about the music, not the packaging.
