That i dont know shit about Russell Crowe, and i have no frame of reference here...i just hate him...I've seen him in 3 movies...Confidential...Gladitor...and that John Forbes Nash Movie about that one math guy and it won this award thingy. I just think he's an asshole.
Yes depressing movies are bad. And Gladiator is depressing. But i dont mean depressing where it has a sad ending...but where the movie in a whole just makes you want to kill yourself because thats the most sad thing youve ever seen. What Ridley Scott failed to do was add comic relief and that really hurt Gladiator. It also hurt Angela's Ashes (the movie not the book) I dont remember the authors name off hand, but, he added plenty of comic relief in the book (oh yeah his name is Frank M. or something) and he made fun of the situations he was placed him. The movie didnt fit the comic relief and it really hurt the movie...it was depressing and bad, the book was one of my favs.
Take it into consideration.
