The Devils lost because they were outworked in the series, and Carolina trounced on them early. I'll admit that when New Jersey won games three and four I was convinced that the surprise attack Carolina had used on them had finally worn off. However, when Carolina won Game Five, it signified the maturation of their franchise. The Devils have walked all over Carolina in previous years but payback finally came through. The Devils can't win them all...
I'm more impressed with the possibility of having Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Vancouver in the second round of the playoffs at the same time. Who said Canadian hockey was dead?
