X-Men didn't come out in Theatres until 2000 which was about the time comics were starting to come out of their funk.
The muddled times for X-Men started in the Mid-90s and lasted for a few years, but the X-Men movie came out in 2000 which was the same year Joe took over at Marvel and started fixing things.
