I loved CHANGING LANES because it *was* slow, smart, genuine, uplifting, without being cliche and watered down.
In fact, I thought it succeeded in spite of starring Affleck and Jackson! Greatest of actors, don't get me wrong, but having two giant stars in a movie like CHANGING LANES led me to believe it would devolve into some hokey revenge movie where at the end they both just fight fist to fist and someone dies.
Sorry, kind of undermined the topic with my praise. More on the topic, I guess MEMENTO and BEAUTIFUL MIND would be mine. Not horrible movies by any stretch, just way over praised.
I found MOULIN ROUGE completely fucking unwatchable, but that's a personal hang up as I thought the movie was pretty well made. Too goofy, over the top, hated the music gimmick, and can't for the life of me buy Nicole Kidman as a sexpot or believe any 20 year old man would instantly fall in love with her. Jesus, she looks like my mom without botox.
: It was sooooo damn slow. I think it was the direction that bugged me, really. I have no fault with any of the actors, or acting, in it. A waste of both Affleck and Sam Jackson. It just seemed to drag on & on. Watched it with a friend, and we both have been wondering if the critics saw the same movie that we did.
