I'm no director but it seems like a fairly easy question.....why don't you show them a couple of films that have "real people" acting....movies like Slacker or clerks or Chuck & Buck......tell them that they have to change their style so they sound like they're being real......if that doesn't help....make them have regular conversations with each other, even though you want them to be "real" I'm sure the characters have certain traits....so you can tell them to do a little improv.....you be bitchy, you be a tough guy, and tell them to have a conversation about something using the desired traits.....I think the worst thing you can do is make them read lines off of a script.....If they're good actors I think they'll be able to change their style after a little practice......

: Question for all you film directors.
: I've directed some theatre shows but never a film, and i'm attempting it this summer. Heres the delema, if anyone knows how to relate to an actor how to act "real" hook me up. Or any books that I should check out, because i'm working with experianced theatre actors and I cant seem to find a way to explain to them that they are to theatrical. It sounds kind of ignorant of me to ask this, but... well anyways if anyone has had to go through with this problem then hit me up with an email.
