i went to college for commercial art. i couldnt find a 'real' job to save my life. then after 3 yrs i started teaching. i had no degree in teaching but because i knew someone at that school...i got a job. im no longer teaching (boss on a mission to make my life hell) but i work in the city doing design. i got this job cause the teaching job looked good on my resume. i didnt go to school for fashion or design. if it was based on my knowledge alone, why didnt i get a job right out of school? also i wouldnt be designing seeing as how i had no prior knowledge of it. most of the people that i went to school with (it was a very small school--150 people at the most), got their jobs through people they knew.

: If you subscribe to the idea that it's WHO you know and not necessarily WHAT you know, then why bother going to college in the first place?

: Now, I understand that 'going out into the real world' requires a little of both, but I would hope being sucessful would depend more upon WHAT you know in most cases.

: By knowing what you're doing and turning out quailty work, people will then want to know YOU.
