Good songs for a mix CD? Um, well anything by the Super Furry Animals seems to fit the bill, as would a lot of Foo Fighters stuff. Muse sounds like it could be suitable as well. If you want to go a little 'old school', I'd search for some Duran Duran, but only if you're not bothered about being called a complete 'lame-o' by your friends.
