I have to admit..I've never seen sream 3

I did see jay and silent bob in SCREAM 3 though......they were the bomb-diggity in that flick.....can anyone give me a synopsis of their role in sream 3?????? Were they involved with sream 2? or 1? as I assume these must have been made (how else does one get to sream3 without a 1 and 2).
