Hey, I like both films virtually equally, but I've noticed a large polarity around here, where it seems that the people who consider themselves hard-core Star Wars fans were pissed about Spider-Man and saying that obviously Star Wars would do better and, besides, Spider-Man sucks, and the Spider-Man fans responded by saying that Star Wars sucked and could never beat Spider-Man. Then Star Wars fans started back-tracking and saying "Well ... it's on less theaters, but at the end of the four-day weekend, it'll make more", and Spider-Man fans said "but that's four days!" and then Star Wars fans said "Oh yeah?" and Spider-Man fans said "Yeah!" and Star Wars fans said "Bring it on, you dorks!" and Spider-fans said "Web force go!" and then they had to put aside their petty differences and unite against the beserk Harry Knowles, whose brain has collapsed in on itself due to over-stimulation.
So I was just surprised that the Spider-fans weren't enjoying the last laugh. [At least until both movies have final box-office gross totals.]
Soon, people will start arguing over which will do better on DVD & video ... and sales vs. rentals ... honestly don't know as I'd be inclined to buy either one, but I think I'd lean towards "Star Wars". Don't expect either would have a lot of repeat-watching value, though, which is why, I figure, get the one that has the higher peaks of cool stuff.
