It was more organic to the movie than Vanilla Ice's appearance in "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze".

Not saying it was better. But it's not like the scene was about Macy Gray or anything, it was just that it was set in the roughly now (the here-and-now if you live in NYC, as I do), and they were trying to get across the celebration, so they have a popular performer. Why doesn't that make sense?

[I think the Dr. Pepper thing was played up to be a joke, because most of the theater laughed at it, including me. It was so blatant ... I mean, extreme close-up on "Dr. Pepper". He knew that everybody'd catch the product placement. Hell, he shot the whole scene like a commercial.]
