I think today's too-fucking-skinny actress is an abomination, man... it's a construct, now, Hollywood desperately trying to brainwash the world out of what's instinctively attractive about the female form, sexually: big chest, curvy ass, big hips, pronounced waist, a little bit of a tummy.

I mean... remember how gorgeous Christina Ricci was before she got on the Calista Flockhart diet? How gorgeous Kate Winslet was before she realized she wasn't going to get cast in Hollywood without throwing up three times a day? Thora Birch in Ghost World? THORA FUCKING BIRCH IN GHOST WORLD?!

But I digress... all I'm saying is, despite any image things, she's clearly damn attractive.

As for Lopez as a performer? She's a talented actress when she's on a good project. She was quite good in the pictures she was in where she was surrounded by other talent, in front of and behind the camera. And, frankly, a good actor... a GREAT actor... can put in a shitty performance in a poorly-written or poorly-directed movie...

Liam Neeson, Christopher Lee, Sam Jackson, Ewan MacGregor and Natalie Portman come to mind as examples of this.

In "Jersey Girl", she'll be working with a great script, a great cast and a great crew... so she'll do amazingly well. I've never cared much for her musically... but that's probably less a sign of her singing skill, more just a simple fact that I care little for the genre she sings in. Ditto for Morrisette, really. I'm not much for folk rock or hip-hop, really.

But most importantly...

It doesn't seem like she's being brought on the project on a whim, just because they could get her, to boost the box office, to get another big star in there or anything like that...

It seems to be that Affleck suggested her because they've got a really good acting chemistry together... and, shit, the guy who wrote "Good Will Hunting" and played Holden McNeil? I'll trust his instincts as a storyteller and an actors...

And moreover, as a guy who's done... like fifty pictures with Kevin, I'll also trust him to know who'd work on one of Smith's projects or not.

An unconventional choice? Sure.

But in a good way.

Mike
