It's a rough road ahead, and it takes a lot of effort. You should try to get a decent agent.

You might want to start off doing modeling. You'll get some exposure, plus you can get good deals with photographers who are looking to expand their portfolio -- they'll give you headshots (you really want those in YOUR portfolio) and you give them free modeling (they may actually charge you for the cost of developing some of the prints, but it's a steal).

Then do a lot of low-budget independant movies. Hopefully you'll get a commercial or two, and you'll be on your way.

So says my acting cousin, who has been in a couple R-rated B movies, as well as an epilepsy awareness commercial in Cali, and a Pilot Dr. Grip pen commercial.
