I'm sure there's some purpose to George Lucas making "Attack of the Clones" and "Empire Strikes Back" so similar. Either to demonstrate the "history repeats itself" series of events (which basically means that because Anakin failed to restore balance to the Force, very similar events occur again to his son, who is the last hope of fulfilling the prophecy), or it's because Lucas ran out of ideas. I'd prefer to believe in the former, but the latter seems more likely, considering Lucas's recent track record. Anyway, here are the main similarities that I've noticed.

1. Count Dooku asks Obi-Wan to join his campaign, stating that they can destroy the Sith together. Obi-Wan refuses.
Darth Vader asks Luke Skywalker to join his campaign, stating that they can destroy the Empire together. Luke refuses.

2. Count Dooku reveals that someone close to Obi-Wan in the Senate is really a Sith Lord.
Darth Vader reveals that someone close to Luke (namely, his father) is really a Sith Lord.

3. Against orders from Yoda and Ben, Anakin rushes to Tatooine to save his mother.
Against orders from Yoda and Ben, Luke rushes to Bespin to save his friends.

4. On Tatooine, Anakin is forced to fight against his anger towards the Tusken Raiders and fails.
On Degobah, Luke is forced to fight against his anger towards Darth Vader and fails.

5. Anakin loses his right hand in the battle against Dooku.
Luke loses his right hand in the battle against Vader.

6. Count Dooku employs a bounty hunter to trap and kill Padme.
Darth Vader employs a bounty hunter to trap Han and Luke.

7. Anakin and Padme begin a romantic relationship, but fight against it. Padme has trouble confessing her love for Anakin.
Han and Leia begin a romantic relationship, but fight against it. Leia has trouble confessing her love for Han.

8. C-3PO is dismantled and incorrectly reassembled by Chewbacca. This is remedied by R2-D2.
C-3PO is dismantled and incorrectly reassembled onto a Battle Droid. This is remedied by R2-D2.

Can anybody else think of hard similarities besides these? A friend of mine is compiling a list for a movie review he's writing for his website. When he's finished it, I'll post the link for you to read, if you so wish. Thanks.
