The original Star Wars as beloved as it is now, in its day was a 70's version of Independence Day, hockey dialogue, awesome special effects, and fun characters. It simply grew into a phenomenon.
Will ID4 ever reach the same biblical peek at SW, I doubt it, or hope it doesn't... but you gotta understand that in the end, it's still a campy B-Movie... that's all. Enjoy it for what it is, not for what you think it means.
