actually, its funny... if you listen through the kevin smith audio commentary on the first disc, they mention it there, Mewes brings it up "like you remember that one time when we doing that fart scene... and I showed my easter eggs" and Kevin says "yeah, maybe we should hide it as an easter egg."
hence the easter egg was born.
It's close to the beginning when Kevin was saying the beginning fart gag where the cop shoves Mewes to the wall was one of the lowest gags in his career.
