I think you answered your own question. anyway from a theological standpoint, angels aren't omniscient, so they can't know everything there is about the universe.
so whereas he can see someone's past, he probably couldn't know everything that there is to know about someone.
Chris Rock knew about Bethany as well as the Metatron, because they're up in Heaven's loop.
