This is a fantastic idea. I don't know how feasible it is given various people's comparative level of interest, energy and intelligence, but whoo.
Again, I just have to say I'm really impressed in how much you care for this ragtag community of freaks and believers, and the wonderful ideas you have for organizing. It's very cool. I have no technical skills to offer to help you, but I'm all down for what you're outlining and I'd love to help in any way possible.
I do think things need to expand on another level, because basically the open online community has grown beyond the point that it can be structured in any meaningful way. This board is just too well-known, and any yokel with can roll on in here and cause the passionate long-timers endless grief with their silly shenanigans. Would be very cool if we had a home base, if you will, where there would be, in a sense, "No Homers Allowed". But who's really interested? And how can we establish first contact?
Or we could just suck teats. I'm cool with that.
: My vision was that by now we'd be much more organized and cooperative as a fan-club, and we'd be able to put on our own events and activities, be it something online, a film project, a jaunt to Red Bank, or a junket to Vegas. Unfortunately it hasn't happened, and I just don't have the spare time, energy, or faith in most of this crowd to push it anymore.
: I probably have one more Vulgarthon left in me, and only because of the success of Harley's Fan-Fest and dozen or so that volunteered to help (you know who you are). I'll give it one more try, but after that I'm probably gonna give up...
: One idea I keep thinkin about is to pool our efforts and start an official fanclub - put a nonprofit org on the books, collect dues, use the money for homegrown events and issue special edition swag to every member. We could build an access-controlled treehouse online with news, profiles, and commo (a separate board perhaps and a functional chatroom). Anyone who's serious about attending events and having intelligent discussion will have to put their money where their mouth is.
: Basically I'm talkin about resurrecting the Riders, but in a kinder- gentler incarnation, where all are welcome as long as they don't act like a schmuck...
: Thoughts?
