Throughout my four years of high school, I was totally into the drama/theatre thing. I competed statewide, nationwide, was a part of several improv troupes, and there was no doubt in my mind, as well as the minds of others, that this is what I would study in college. However, I began to think about the movies and how I'd learned about the acting aspect, and I wanted to study the other aspects. I took no film classes during high school, and despite how much I loved film, I never thought I'd make one of my own.

Then comes my first year of college.

I took a screenwriting class and a couple of directing and technical classes. I found that concentrating on English in high school really, really helped me in the screenwriting class. I guess that'd be common sense, but if I weren't drilled so hard in English during high school, I really don't think I would've enjoyed the class as much as I did.

Don't concentrate so much on being a famous filmmaker. That's where your problem will be. Just focus on growing as an artist, and once that's done, I think it'll all fall into place. I'm still trying to figure out where my interest in filmmaking will lie, so don't worry about rushing it.

And about your Alaska remark - how silly. How many famous filmmakers came out of Red Bank, NJ pre-Kevin? Location is irrelevant. Just focus on your projects.

Don't be scared that you don't know what you want to do. I'm sure everyone here will agree that they felt unsure of their future at some point in their lives. Totally normal, man.

Hope I've helped. I'm pretty drugged on all sorts of sinus medications, so I'm not sure if this is a 'thinking out loud' response or if it actually made sense.
