...try talking to Brian Lynch, over at angrynakedpat.com. He's part of the V-A crew, and has had a few comics published, so he might be able to give you a few suggestions.
And even though I'm just a comics fan, I know how much Diamond can suck when it comes to distributing. I have a friend who manages a comic store, and he's always complaining about them. Keep at it though, it sounds like a good idea.
