If a band still has 3 out of 4 members they can carry on as that band and just use a back-up replacement. But when half of the band is not there than it's time to retire the name and if the remaining members want to continue they can adopt a similar name. Daltry and Towhnsend can carry on as Daltry & Towhnsend. Just like Page & Plant.
