Several characters completely reworked. Superman put into new situations.
"Batman"
A completely new story.
"Spawn"
The fans hate it.
"X-Men"
Completely new story and redefined characters.
"Spiderman"
Redefined characters and a fleshed-out story.
All the above were mass-market films whose characters even non-readers knew about and saw. All of them grossly outnumber JTHC in numbers, fans and cred.
