Why? Widescreen TVs are still at astronomical prices, and are only available in 1.85:1.
Why not have a 2.35:1 TV set, made with normal technology (none of that Hi-def stuff) and retail it for only a couple hundred buck more than a regular TV? We'd win over the P&S goblins in no time.
It could have curtains on the side to hide black bars when watching films in smaller ratios...
