Bartelby talked Loki into flipping god off... (so to speak)... That's why they both got kicked out. Without Bartelby talking him out of it, Loki is inclined to do these things. It is Loki's "nature".
I may be wrong, but I believe they were both out of it by the time they made it to the church. Loki was quite intoxicated, and Bartebly was out of his mind.... (If angels have minds)
