The guy who played Olaf in Clerks was John Henry. According to Mewes, John "disappeared" sometime after Clerks was made, and besides an impromptu visit to the set of 'Mallrats', he never resurfaced until shortly after the release of 'Dogma', when he posted a few times on this board from France, congratulating Kevin on the flick and plugging a CD released by his band.

Months later, Henry struck some kind of deal with Kevin where he would allow his 'Olaf' likeness to be used on a t-shirt worn by Mewes and sold as merchandise for 'Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back' in exchange for Kevin including one of Henry's songs in the film's soundtrack. The song can be heard playing in the 'Arena Diner' scene of the film.

Unfortunately, Kev didn't have room for the track on the soundtrack's CD release, and when Henry discovered it was missing from the disc's playlist, he went to a lawyer and sued. The case ended in a settlement, however Henry still felt he was "screwed", and unleashed about a day and a half worth of public rants on the board. Kevin responded with his side of the story, and of course the online dispute, although wildly entertaining for us fans, never actually resolved anything.

It's hard to pass judgement on either side of the dispute without knowing the details, but when you factor in the sizable settlement that the guy took home, he really didn't have much right to complain, and his rant postings didn't help his image any.

None of us here have seen or heard from John Henry since...
