Sure. You just can't do it in a public arena that's being paid for on the government's dime.

True. It just means the government doesn't involve itself with mentions of God, and does not pay for God to be mentioned. Thus in public schools, you don't say the pledge. Simple. It was a simple ruling that was passed with little fuss on anyone's part except those who feel that God SHOULD be mentioned in every public setting.
