: I remember the first month the film "54" came out on video: February 1999. And, of course, it came out like any other movie, on a Tuesday. I couldn't wait to see it. Feb.'99 came around, and I saw it. And guess what: I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!!!!!!
: Years later, I decided to revist it. As coool as always, but I found a little bit of fault in certain areas. I will list them:
: __________________________________________________________________________
: 1. DIALOGUE: I have to admit, a little bit of the dialogue in the film was so cliched, it was unbearable to watch. There are two lines of dialogue in 54 which come to mind, mostly said by Shane, Ryan Philippe's character:
: 1. Shane(commenting about his mother):"My mother said I can do anything I wanted to do, and I believed her. She died when I was just 12."
: 2. Shane(on getting into the club): "Steve chose me. I've never been chosen for anything before."
: 2. MUSIC: Yes, I recognized some of the music here, but most of it was new to me, and I didn't like that. I wanted more KC & the Sunshine Band, Village People, Donna Summer, etc. Mainstream hits like that. I suppose the writer/director Mark Christopher put his own stuff he used to listen to when he was young, not the REAL disco.

: That's all that's negative about this film.
: The reason I like this film so well is because of Mike Myers' performance as Steve Rubell. His first dramatic role, and had it been a longer role, he probably would have landed an Oscar nomination, maybe even a win. The rest of the cast is great and well-acted roles they play. I was wishing for a little bit more Neve Campbell, but that's ok. Less is more. The film is well-written and directed by Christopher, and his production designer did a fantastic job at bringing back Studio 54. Never have I ever seen a club in which color, glitter, lighting and sound effects, and decoration were used so well. And the music, while not exactly what I was expecting, was pulse-beating. Hell, in the soundtrack I even found a few great sounding gems, notably one by the S.O.S Band. All of this and much more ranks "54" as one of the best films ever.
