: So I recently laid down a cd with my poetry/spoken word stuff on top of some pretty cool acoustic guitar, and everyone that has heard it (about fifty people all told) loved it. I'd like to do something with it, so is this something I'd send to radio stations or record companies? I plan on taking copies to the next live show I go to and giving one to the band as well as people in the audience. I'm new to this gig so any advice is much appreciated.

I have been in the"music biz"practically all my life and I have played gigs, had managers, professional photographers, been in the studio, recorded a demo, had said demo reviewed by major local publication(HARDER BEAT MAGAZINE)even had major labels calling and leaving messages on my answering machine(still no deal as yet)My songs have been heard by major bands such as PANTERA(Vinnie Paul and Dimes have heard me and like my vocals)and OZZY and Rob Zombie(through artist insider).I even once tried to audition to be Joe Satriani's lead vocalist and got a call and a letter from his manager(I never did get to audition for him,and you notice...he still doesn't have a vocalist)I can't remember what the letter said,it was several years ago, basically they didn't know what they wanted are what they were doing. Anyway,I usually don't like talking about all this on this webboard, because I generally don't want people here to think that I think I am some kinda star or something,or start thinking I have some kinda ego...so I generally keep all this shit to myself. But since you asked, yes,I am in the so called music business and my real good advice to you is to submit your material to ARTIST INSIDER(www.artistinsider.com) and let one of their music reps listen to your stuff and give you a written evaluation of your material...they will let major representatives of record labels hear your music, then you will know where to go from there. You can also try sending your material into local radio stations and contests in your area and play lots of open mic nights at area clubs. Also you can take out a local ad in whatever kind of publications you have in your area, and try to find other people to work with, that can help you to realize your goals. GOOD LUCK!
