"Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency"? Truly great, better probably than the 4th Hitchhiker and certainly than the 5th. No need to read the second one, though ("The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul"). It's as bad as anything written by Adams could be.
Oh, and if you can track down a copy of "Last Chance To See", that's really good too.
