I think Kevin wanted 20/30-somethings to play the parts that Affleck & Lopez are now playing.

And Affleck's father's part had to have someone who was older than Ben or else it would have looked funny. Could you imagine Haley Joel Osment playing Ben's father in the film? How weird would that be?
