If we're talking about worst transition from book to screen, Sleepy Hollow. That would have been a great movie if they'd just changed the title and names, but there's no Sleepy Hollow without the geeky schoolmaster. If we're talking about just plain bad, then the A&E/BBC Scarlet Pimpernel.
