It all depends on what's good in your area, and even that changes as things evolve. In Prince William County Virginia where I live, Comcast's cable modem service works as advertised (1500K down, 128K up) and never goes down, yet all DSL in this area is an absolute cluster-fuck. In Fairfax county it's the exact opposite, and in other places like PA or CA, Comcast is absolute crappola.
You also have to pay attention to the installation and lines in your house. Make sure every interior splice (DSL) or splitter (cable) is absolutely necessary and that the components used are top notch. If not, then go to Radio Schmuck and get em fixed...

I pay $43.00 a month - 40 for the service and 3 for modem rental...
