is as good a description as any....dramedy......there was enough comedy and social satire in the film, not all comedy has to be slapstick etc....American Beauty is a comedy in the way that the Graduate or Harold and Maude, or Rushmore is a comedy......they aren't pure drama or pure black comedy......but they are comedic enough to warrant the title I think....
