If you aren't gonna make any money of the stage production then you don't need permission to perform it, just go ahead and do it (I plan to do an abridged version for my final project in university) If you do plan to make money off it in any way then you can't perform it because you would have to buy (rent) the stage rights for this property and the stage rights do not exist. This question has come up a few times.
