Hey Kevin,
I know you're busy with lots of things, among them raising a child, making yet another film, and making managerial/directorial decisions, but I'd really appreciate if you could take the time to answer a few questions.
My girlfriend is really interested in becoming a filmmaker and she's currently trying to figure out which colleges she should attend to pursue that career. We're both big fans of your work, and so I was wondering if you could help us out with a few questions about your profession and experiences, to make things a bit clearer for her (and myself):
1) How many colleges/film schools have you attended in pursuit of your career as a director, writer, etc?
2) How much formal training in techniques of filmmaking or directing do you feel is necessary for someone to be taken seriously in the film industry? Is it reasonable to assume that someone could rely on innate talent or vision to stand out in said industry?
3) What do you feel is the single most important/inspirational aspect of making a film, aside from a love of creating something you've envisioned?
4) Which colleges have you seen or dealt with that provide a good basis for filmmaking or directing, based on value for the price of enrollment?
Keep up your fantastic work. I'm a big fan of your films, and I really appreciate your sense of humor, the ideas your films present, and you maturity and ability to take everything with a grain of salt (no matter how asinine it may be). I know you're a busy man, so I understand if you don't have the time (or energy) to respond to this. Thanks either way for all you've given to the world of film, and I look forward to "Jersey Girl."
