I'm sure that this message will be read by millions of fans of the View Askew films. I was just hoping to put in my two cents concerning some of the things I've been thinking about.
First, just this evening I rented and was finally view the wonderfull film "Vulgar" by Mr. Bryan Johnson. For those of you have not yet seen it, go out and rent it, then sit down and enjoy. Mr. Johnson, thanks for allowing the world to be a part of your film. It was a truly disturbing film, and I mean that in a good way. I will be honest, I like most others that will probably view your film, went out and saw it because it was produced by the same two guys who have brought us the wonders of Clerks, Mallrats, ect., ect. However, I like to think that I can judge films on their own merit. It was a great film. It's unfortunate that admission boards of the film festivals were not open minded enough to allow a demented, yet amazingly performed and directed film at the festivals. The crowds there missed out. I was dissappointed that I could not see the film on the big screen, but I'm glad to have had the opportunity to see it at all.
Now for some personal ranting that I'm sure you have all heard before but was brought to the forefront of my mind and inspired by the Vulgar DVD to join this webboard and share. On the Vulgar DVD is a special feature defending the release of DOGMA. Dogma is without question my favorite ViewAskew film and something I hold dear to my heart. I just wanted to share this because of something I heard on the DVD. A pastor on the special said that if the film was to bring one person to question their beliefs, to begin thinking about God, Christianity, and religion, or to touch one persons life then the film was a success. Well, if that is the measure of success then DOGMA went above and beyond. The film, in its odd way, inspired me to go back, do some reading, do some searching, and find out the truth on my own.
The best truth can't be just told to you...and it can't just be swallowed without a little thinking on your own. DOGMA opened my mind and inspired me to search out my own answers. I did just that and found God in my life. I just wanted to thank everyone who worked on DOGMA, and all the ViewAskew films. I know this can't be a message that is unique, but I felt the need and the desire to share this with everyone. Thanks to everyone who works or have worked for ViewAskew.
I know that everyone is busy working on Jersey Girl, but I hope you all get the chance to at least read this message and know that your films have touched at least one person in this world. And by the looks of this board, you have touched millions. Thank you for opening my mind and helping me to find the way I needed to find on my own.
