The Attack of the Clones DVD is coming out Tuesday and already people are giving me shit for buying it for Christmas. Hey, it's not as good as the original Star Wars trilogy, grant you. But I thought it was better than the Phantom Menace, not that it could have been much worse. I never really listen to critics, but people who grew up watching the original trilogy as kids probably have a hard time dealing with the new technology and the reality that they're not kids anymore. They're adults now with kids of their own and so the movie has a different feel than it did when we were eight, nine, whatever and the world seemed much simpler, smaller and more innocent.
Lucas made the right call putting out Episode IV first. Had 1, 2 and 3 been released chronologically from 1977-1983, who knows what might have happened to the Star Wars franchise? But he had to tell the backstory of how Anakin became Darth Vader. I personally thought Hayden Christensen was okay, but I would have gotten a better actor for the part. Natalie Portman was great as always and so was Ewan McGregor. I'm excited about Episode 3 despite the reservations of some SW fans. And even though they bitch about 1 and 2, I know damn well they'll be lining up for tickets when Episode 3 comes out in May of 2005. Until then, may the Force be with you all.
