While this may have already been posted by someone, a search didn't turn up anything like it. In your interview with Stan Lee, he mentions that Mjollnir was a name given to him, and that he didn't think it had any bearing on Thor as the god. I'm an Asatru man (follower of the old Nordic ways/gods), so let me shed some light on this. Mjollnir is indeed Thor's (Or Thunar/Donar depending on the norse derived culture that's discussing him) hammer. Mjollnir was thought to strike sparks when Thor would crack it over the heads of various Giants, Trolls, etc, in the heavens, and would be seen as humanity as lighting, and the concussion of the impact resulted in thunder (the similarity between the word 'thunder' and the name 'Thunar' is no coincidence.) Anyway, I could probably easily ramble on with a ton of useless information about Thor and the various stories the Asatru folk have about him, but I'll save the bandwidth. If you ever feel like learning a bit more, I'm sure you can figure out how to reach me.
