: read so far, and I am usually pretty good at knowing who people are...how this guy slipped past me for so long is weird.....
... the Bad Movie Angel chapter yet? That and the titular chapter are the two that stand out in my mind. Actually, as a film student (when I read it) the one that I always think back on is the chapter where he goes around to theaters and asks people who directed the movie they just finished watching. Won't spoil too much for you, but no director gets higher than 50%, and that's Steven Spielberg (and at least one person answers "Steven King").
I got into him because my parents always listen to Imus in the Morning, and he was a long-standing guest (until they had a huge fight, at least, which, if memory serves, is documented in 'My Goodness'). [That's also where I picked up the other funniest writer in America today, Kinky Friedman, but that's a whole other genre, style, and story altogether.] He also became fairly notorious for the meanest interview with Bob Dylan ever printed (I want to say in Rolling Stone, not sure though) ... but he's been fairly quiet in recent years, aside from the books, so it's not a total shock you haven't heard of him before. I mean, not many people have.
