I do come here for the verbal "wars," bang! pow! ooo my leg!
But to debate over who is the better director, Paul Thomas Anderson or Kevin Smith is pointless. Neither is anything special in my opinion. Though the more overrated of the two is definetly pta. If Magnolia didn't awake you to the face that he is overly pompus and tries covering little to no plot with pointless imagery and posturing, then you were watching the wall opposite to that of the one Vagolia was playing on. And yes toolbox, I refer to it that way because after watching it I assumed a wheepy chick directed it, mainly because pta was trying to be overly emotional in the direction of his actors... why? because he had a shitty script to cover.
Between who's movies are more watchable, that one goes to Smith. He unlike pta is able to write dialogue that furthers the story as well as gives insights to the characters personality, all while being somewhat funny.
And while Boogie Nights was an above average movie, it like all the other pta movies was a character study. Pure and simple, dude comes up with plot twists about as horribly as you come up with posts. Go finish your lonely boy night of Everquest, have your cry, then go to bed. Just because you changed message boards does not mean that you are no longer an idiot, just now more people know.
