You should get out and about when you visit - there's plenty to see and plenty of people to talk to. I jumped on a Greyhound last time I was there (no loonies, thank goodness) - saw a bit of the country and savoured a bit of the atmosphere. That was fun, despite having loads of friends there who give me plenty of the "real US", whatever that is...
