Yeah, that's annoying. That's when gift certificates work out (if you have a general idea of what they like).

I usually go later at night, about a half hour before the mall closes. Even during all this holiday frenzy, you usually get less people the later you go during a weeknight. Shopping and getting up early are two of my least favorite things, so combining them would probably cause me to gnaw my arm off.
And no relation to Sheila E., except that we share the same first name and love Prince. ;o)
